Beth Phoenix is set to make her first appearance in the Smackdown! series in WWE SmackDown! vs Raw 2009. Pheonix debuted in World Wrestling Entertainment in May 2006, attacking Mickie James, who was then a heel and in her first Women's title reign. This storyline progressed for a few weeks until Pheonix suffered an injury in a match against Torrie Wilson. After two months of rehab, she was placed in OVW for another year.

In 2007, she redebuted as Beth Pheonix, "The Glamazon", and was given a strongwoman gimmick. She once again was placed into the title hunt, dominating divas and eventually sparked a feud with Candice Michelle, that lasted until No Mercy when Beth won her first WWE Women's Championship. Ironically enough, Candice was injured by Pheonix during a match that would also lead to a departure. Pheonix defended the title against contenders like Melina and Kelly Kelly before once again running into Mickie James, who she faced at Wrestlemania 24 in a Playboy Divas' matchup. The following month, James beat Pheonix for the Women's title.

Pheonix was taken off television in June 2008 for a short time, but returned to start a storyline with Santino Marella, in which she beat him in an inpromptu match. This led to a romantic relationship (keyfabe) developing between the two, and it was with him she regained the Women's Championship from Mickie James at Summerslam, also nabbing Santino an Intercontinental title in an unusual double-title match. The pair have proven to be a popular storyline on RAW.

The Glamazon bursts onto the SD vs. Raw scene with attributes unheard of for a diva in recent games. Her impressive technique, durability and stamina will make her a force to be reckoned with against female and male foes alike, and whilst the choice of Dirty Pin as one of her abilities given her usually dominant displays, it will no doubt prove a useful weapon against tougher opponents. Her main weaknesses come in the way of her Hardcore and Charisma attributes; it seems apparent that sustained periods of control will be needed before she can close out a match, following a promise that victories following weaker manouvres have been dramatically reduced this year. Furthermore, even when extreme rules and other such stipulations apply, Beth is best suited to staying firmly inside the square circle.
