Essa Rios debuted onto WWF Television in 2000 and captured the Light-Heavyweight Championship from then champion Gillberg. He was managed by Lita and had small feuds with big names such as Eddie Guerrero and Kurt Angle, but he was released in 2001.

He now wrestles for the Mexican promotion CMLL under the name Mr. Águila, but he was able to make the roster in WWF SmackDown! 2: Know Your Role
