After wrestling many years for World Championship Wrestling, Helms was picked up in the WWE during the 'Invasion' angle. Not long after his first WWE appearance he started his new persona as The Hurricane, a superhero character. It wasn't until late 2006 where he ended this gimmick and he returned in style, winning the cruiserweight championship again at the 2007 Royal Rumble which was an open invitational match to all former cruiserweight champions. He held this belt for well over a year, but since losing it, he will be out for a year due to a neck injury he sustained.

Helms debuts in the SmackDown! series under the Hurricane gimmick and starts off as the Cruiserweight Champion.
