King of the Ring
From Smackdown! - Wiki on Neoseeker
Background
The King of the Ring was an annual wrestling tournament, in which a number of wrestlers competed in order to be considered the King of the Ring. It was a pay-per-view from 1985 until 2002, but has since returned twice, most recently in 2007 where William Regal earnt the crown after defeating CM Punk in the final. Other noteable winners include Bret Hart, Kurt Angle, Steve Austin and Triple H.
Game History
The King of the Ring tournament has been a part of the Smackdown series since the beginning - in which it was a simple case of selecting eight superstars to win. Nothing much has changed from this simple concept idea, although in the earlier games in the series, The King of the Ring would be a part of Season Mode where you would wrestle each week until you gained the crown. Unlike the real-life tournament, an option for a special tournament could be selected, which meant every match fought was of a special matchtype, for example Table, Ladder Match or TLC.
Beat The Clock Sprint
In WWE SmackDown! vs RAW 2008, 'Beat The Clock Sprint' was also included in the tournament options, as well as King of the Ring. This change simply means that you have to beat your opponent faster than the winner of the previous match or you will be eliminated from the tournament.
