The prison guard from Cobb County, Georgia; Big Boss Man, debuted in the WWF in 1988. After an initial successful run which featured feuds with Hulk Hogan, Ted DiBiase and a WWF Tag Title Run, Boss left the WWF in 1993. After a short run in Japan, he went to WCW where he wrestled as "The Boss", "The Guardian Angel", "Big Bubba Rogers" and his real name Ray Traylor. This run was largely unsuccessful, with his only notable feud coming against Vader.

Boss Man then returned to the WWF in 1998, becoming personal security for Vince McMahon's Corporation faction. He then was in a feud with the Undertaker, which ended with Taker "hanging" him from the cell after defeating Boss Man in a Hell in a Cell match. He then feuded with Big Show over the WWF Championship, giving Show the nickname "Big Nasty Bastard". He then formed several short-lived tag teams with partners including Buchanan, Booker T and Mr. Perfect. Boss Man then began training wrestlers at Ohio Valley Wrestling before being released in 2003. On September 22, 2004, Ray "The Big Boss Man" Traylor tragically passed away after a heart attack, leaving behind a wife and two daughters.

The Big Boss Man appeared in the first two games of the Smackdown! series.
